Woher is sie denn?
HungryIulia kommt aus Niederösterreich und ist im echten Leben die Iulia mit „i“ (am Anfang und in der Mitte, Bittschön). Ursprünglich in Rumänien geboren, kamen bei ihr zu Hause sowohl österreichische als auch rumänische Gerichte auf den Tisch. In Rumänien wird traditionell noch sehr viel selbst gemacht, von Brot, über Würstl bis hin zum Schnaps. Eigentlich eine gute Grundlage um seine Leidenschaft fürs Kochen schon frühzeitig zu entwicklen. Könnte man meinen… Leider nein.
Mit dem Umzug nach Wien und dem Beginn des Studentendaseins, konnte hungryIulia, sprichwörtlich nicht mal ein Ei kochen und musste plötzlich wählen zwischen, Packerlsuppen oder hungry bleiben. Sie entschied sich für keines von beiden und begann, mit kleineren Experimenten hier und größeren Katastrophen da, sich mit dem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. Motiviert hat sie dabei meist, ein englischer Fernsehkoch bei dem immer alles so leicht und die Küche im Anschluss häufig sehr wild aussah. Was den chaotischen Zustand der Küche betrifft, konnte sie problemlos mit ihm mithalten, allerdings unterschied sich das kulinarische Endergebnis (dezent) von dem was im Fernsehen oder Kochbuch abgebildet war. Optisch ansprechend war es anfangs meist nicht, allerdings fing es an zu schmecken, was Freude und Lust auf mehr machte.
Was kann sie denn?
HungryIulia ist also keine ausgebildete Köchin, allerdings übt sie nun schon seit mehr als 15 Jahren fleißig, und das mit Hingabe, noch mehr Neugier und als Hobbykoch, natürlich mit viel Verständnis für die Schwierigkeiten und Herausforderungen unser aller Kochanfänge. All das, möchte sie nun thematisch in einem persönlichen Newsletter miteinander verbinden, damit auch bei anderen die Freude und Lust aufs Kochen ein bisserl mehr wird.
Was glaubt’s ihr was sie kocht?
Heute lebt und kocht sie, mit ihrem englischen Lieblingsmitbewohner im schönen München und bevor hier Vermutungen angestellt werden: nein, sie hat am Ende nicht den Fernsehkoch geheiratet! Und die Küche ist heute auch nicht mehr nur österreichisch oder rumänisch, sondern sie ist jetzt auch ein bißchen deutsch und englisch und manchmal verlässt sie sogar gänzlich den Kontinent. Ideen und Inspiration für ihre Rezepte, zieht sie dabei vor allem aus Reisen, weshalb die Auswahl der Gerichte häufig kunterbunt und multikulti ist, wie hungryIulia ein bißchen selbst auch. Eine Stilrichtung gibt es dabei nicht, ganz im Gegenteil, oft vermischt es sich sogar miteinander und es entsteht dadurch etwas ganz Neues, Buntes und optimalerweise etwas Leckeres.

Who is hungry?
HungryIulia is from Lower Austria and her real name, Iulia, begins with an “i” and is the ancient Roman form of Julia. Originally from Romania, dishes from both Austrian and Romanian cultures made it onto the family kitchen table during her childhood. Traditionally in Romania, a lot of food is still homemade, from bread, to sausages, to schnapps… you name it (they cook it!) – a good base to develop a passion for cooking at an early age, you may think. Unfortunately not.
When she moved away from home to Vienna to study, hungryIulia literally couldn’t even cook an egg and had just the choice between instant soup or staying hungry. After one year eating out of paper and plastic, she decided for neither and began some smaller cooking experiments. Some of them resulted in catastrophes, but she was always kept motivated by an English TV chef who made everything look very easy, despite his very chaotic looking kitchen – the only thing she initially had in common with him. The final dishes at this time, didn’t look very pretty, but they eventually started to taste nice, which made her happy and kept her passion alive.
What is she hungry for?
So hungryIulia is not a professional cook or chef, but she has been practising diligently for more than 15 years now, with dedication, even more curiosity and, as a hobby cook, of course with a lot of understanding for the challenges when you start cooking. With her personal newsletter, she would like to bring all of these experiences together, share food happiness and activate your passion for cooking, or maybe even increase it.
Today she lives and cooks with her favourite English roommate in lovely Munich, and before people start making assumptions: no, she didn’t end up marrying the English TV chef! And the cuisine is no longer just Austrian or Romanian, now it’s also a little bit German/English, or sometimes the dishes are inspired by food from other continents. Most of her ideas for new recipes are collected mainly from travelling and foreign countries, especially local areas. The selection of her dishes is often colourful and multicultural, a little bit like hungryIulia herself. There is no label for her cuisine or style of dishes, sometimes she is mixing up different cuisines, just trying to create something new, colourful and tasty.
